WATERPROOF MUSIC

Waterproof Music is a composing, recording and publishing project of music for piano, strings, woodwinds, mallets, and rhythm instruments, by Nate Beversluis. The recording phase is partly finished and is seeking funding for completion. This page provides information and work samples for prospective contributors, as well as interested listeners.

Waterproof Music is written for jazz and classical musicians playing together, for whom little chamber music repertoire exists. The pieces contain improvisational elements inspired by jazz, with elements of form, texture and color from American minimalism, folk, and chamber music. The composed aspects of the music are written to guide and inspire the improvising players while depending on the energy of improvisation as one component of a cumulative musical plan. The non-improvising parts are highly prominent and interactive, balancing the importance of both solo and accompaniment roles.

Following release of the recording, the scores, and parts and original (Sibelius 6.2) music notation files will be released for other composer/performers to change or adapt for other instrumentations and musicians under a limited non-commercial Creative Commons license.
